Hello, I am Erica Saylors and this is my assistant model, Ashley Charlton. I am going to talk about the interview portion of a pageant, and how you should conduct yourself in a private interview for a single judge or for multiple judges on a panel. Ashley, I am going to ask you a question, and first your going to demonstrate how not to answer a question. Make sure you are always sitting straight. If you are standing, stand up straight. Make sure you smile and show confidence in your face. If you are nervous, put all your tension in your fist or curl your toes. Also, take three deep breaths, before you begin speaking. ************************************************** Interview process: Erica (interviewer): Ashley, where do you see yourself ten years from now? Ashley: Um...lets see... ************************************************** Okay. That is an example of how not to answer a question. Basically, if you can't come up with something right away that is okay, just pause but don't say, "Uh or lets see." Give yourself a few seconds to collect your thoughts and then answer the question. Let's try the interview process again. ************************************************** Interview process: Erica (interviewer): Ashley, where do you see yourself ten years from now? Ashley: (pause) I see myself, in ten years married with children and being a music therapist, because that is what I'm passionate about. I would love to be doing that job. *************************************************** Okay, that was a much better answer to the question. She got to the point and did not ramble on. Let's try another one. *************************************************** Interview process: Erica (interviewer): Ashley, tell me about your platform? Ashley: Well, my platform is volunteerism. And I uh, really like it, because I can go out and meet people. **************************************************** Well, basically I can tell she doesn't know much about her platform. When you choose a platform, it is important to number one, be passionate about it. Number two, you need to know about your platform. You need to represent it with confidence and relate it to society and make sure the issues you are talking about, you can make a difference with. Okay, let me show you how to answer that question. If you are speaking about your platform, make sure you say what you do with your platform, and why you are representing your platform. In other words, you would go out into the community, you would participate in local food drives, you may visit the local nursing homes as a singer, and go to the local kid's shelter. Why do you support your platform? Because your passionate about it, because you think it's important to volunteer in society, and that it really makes a difference in other people's lives. Remember, if you are going to choose a platform, choose it because you are passionate about it. Also, answer your questions with confidence and certainty. That can only be done with proper preparation. You can't prepare the day before, you need to give yourself several weeks of studying and researching and speaking in front of people to prepare yourself for this type of interview.
